New to Cloth Nappies

Here at Gingerly Eco we understand how overwhelming it can be making the switch to reusable nappies or preparing for the arrival of your newborn. We are here to help answer any of your questions - remember nothing is too big or small to ask.

First let’s bust some of those myths for you...

Do reusable nappies smell?

Reusable nappies don’t smell when your little one is wearing them. Some may be frightened of switching to cloth due to a fear their child will smell  However, as long as your child is changed regularly and appropriately for their age and nappies are washed properly there will be no reason why they should smell. Except for the obvious occasion of course, when they have done a poo!

Will reusable nappies affect my babies development?

The short answer is no. Reusable nappies won’t affect your babies development. In fact they actually put your baby’s hips in the perfect gait for a healthy development

Are Reusable Nappies Difficult to Wash?

Reusable nappies aren’t difficult to keep clean. Please see our page Caring for your Cloth Nappies for more information.

Do I need to invest lots of money in reusable nappies?

You only need about 20 nappies if washing every two days for an older child. For younger babies you will likely need more nappies if you wish to wash every two days or to wash every other day. We managed with 20 nappies and about 8 covers and washed every other day when our son was small. So it doesn’t have to be expensive. You can use muslins with a nappy nippa and a waterproof cover from birth. These are really cost effective.

All the types of nappies are confusing. How do I know which one to choose?

If you're unsure what type of nappy would suit your baby best then do contact us and we'd be happy to help advise you. You can also take a look at our What Nappy? page for more information on types of nappies.
